The Albanian government approved on wednesday the amendments to the law of gambling. The draft, which is expected to be in Parliament in September, paves the way for online sports betting. According to the draft law, no more than 10 operators have the right to exercise this activity. They will be selected by the Licence Commision. The applying operators must have their headquarters within the territory of the country and must be registered in the National Center for Bussines, in the "Online sports betting" category. Operators must have an amount of capital above 40 000 000 ALL, a value which cannot be lower for the entire period of validity of the license. The subject must declare the source of the capital that will be invested in the activity. The beneficiaries of the license will pay annually 15% of the income, which is expected to finance projects in different fields. Bets will be played through dedicated websites, applications or electronic platforms, which will be supervised by the Gambling Supervisory Authority. According to the draft, registration is mandatory for every player who will participate in online sports betting. As well, the operator must collect and store their identity data for at least 3 years.
